Under the Mask
"Hey, Tsuna! You've got mail," The rain guardian called out.
Tsuna looked up from his desk and took the envelopes in his hands. "Thanks, Yamamoto," His cheerful smile hasn't changed at all over the decade.
"No problem!" He turned to leave, but not without saying farewell to Tsuna first.
The sky guardian looked through the mail and found a rather fancy invitation. A familiar horse was emblazoned in the corner with the Chiavarone Family written in a golden cursive. Realizing it was from Dino, whom he hadn't seen for a while, he read the letter.
"A masquerade ball?"
To The Vongola Decimo: Sawada Tsunayoshi
You are cordially invited to the Chiavarone Family Masquerade Ball. Mask and formal attire required along with RSVP. Respond at least three days before Valentine's Day or you will be considered as 'Not attending'.
                                                                                                                      Sign,
                                                                                                                     The Bucking Bronco, Dino
P.S. Tsuna, I'd be glad if you could attend. We have some catching up to do.
Tsuna thought about it for a while. It was a chance to discuss a few things with Dino concerning the alliance and how a certain family has been acting up. Plus with how everyone been busy, it was a chance to give them a break from him and their work.
"Jyuudaime, it's me," A familiar said from behind the door.
"Ah, Gokudera-kun. Come in,"
The door opened with Gokudera bringing in some files and tea in a thermos. "Thank you, Gokudera-kun," Tsuna smiled.
"I'm sorry to keep bringing in more papers like this, Jyuudaime,"
Tsuna shook his head and assured him that it wasn't a problem. Ever since he took over the Vongola Family, he's been expecting plenty of filing and paperwork.
Gokudera's eyes caught on to the invite that was left open on Tsuna's desk. He took it into his hands and read it in his head. "So Jyuudaime's going to this event?" Gokudera asked.
"Yes, there's a few things I have to discuss with Dino-san," He answered with a faint smile.
"Then allow me to go with you,"
Tsuna turned him down and glanced up at him. "No. I'm leaving in two days, Gokudera-kun. Two days from now it's your day-off. You work hard. Take a break," Tsuna smiled.
It was that bright smile that made Gokudera's heart jump to his throat and on some occasion, stain his cheeks a faint vermillion. "B-But Jyuudaime…"
Tsuna chuckled to himself. "I'll be fine, Gokudera-kun. You've done a lot for me already,"
After years of being by Tsuna's side, the storm guardian learned that it's hard to change his mind when it comes to the family. "A-Alright… If Jyuudaime says so…" He sighed. He headed for the door. "I'll be back soon," He said.
"Then I'll see you later,"
As soon as the door closed, Tsuna sighed and leaned back in his chair. Natsu jumped to his lap and purred. He petted the sky lion while lost in thought. "Natsu… I missed another chance to spend that day with him…"
Natsu peeked up with puzzled eyes. Tsuna stared back down at him with a bitter smile. Sensing his owner's sadness, he set his paws up on Tsuna's chest and licked him to cheer him up.
"Natsu, that tickles," He laughed.
Later during the week, Tsuna had left for Italy, but not without the guardians seeing him off to his surprise. Chrome gave him a quick peck on the cheek, much to Gokudera's discontent. Yamamoto simply said bye and a quick pat on the back, Ryohei shouted "Have an extremely safe trip, Sawada", and Gokudera simply wished him a safe trip, fighting the urge in his heart.
"Thank you, I'll be back in a few days," He turned and boarded the flight to Italy. The last thing he saw before boarding though, was Gokudera's smiling face and a gentle look in his emerald eyes. He simply gave a wistful smile and left.
In Italy during the party…
Tsuna, in his suit and black mask that covered half his face, attended the party. He was recognized by some other Family bosses thanks to his never-changed hair style. He's had a few drinks with some and enjoyed conversing with them. It's sort of something you'd expect at a typical adult party.
"Yo, Tsuna,"
The brunette turned around. "Hey, Dino-san, it's been a while, hasn't it?"
"Yeah. You didn't bring the Family with you?"
He shook his head. "It's Valentine's Day. Let them spend time with their loved ones," He smirked. Tsuna stared into the crowd. He noticed there were a few kids and juveniles about.
"If you're wondering about the kids…" Dino slipped his mask off and took a sip of red wine. "They're candidates for the other family. I'm pretty shocked though. You didn't bring any for me to meet,"
Tsuna sipped from the fluted glass and sighed. "Things been busy lately. So how have you been, Dino-san?"
"Found myself a girl. She's rather lovely," Dino reached into his pocket and pulled out a black satin box. "I'm hoping she'll accept tonight. I know it's cheesy, but I'll ask at the last slow dance,"
"I see… She'd be lucky to have you, Dino-san," Tsuna smiled.
"Who knows…?" Dino smirked.
He found his future fiancé in the crowd and joined her in conversation, leaving the Vongola Decimo alone with a fluted wine glass. Tsuna stepped outside into the courtyard and stared at the fountain that glistened under the white moonlight. He swirled the fluid around thinking about a certain someone. The brunette was lost in the wonderland that was his imagination. Without realizing it, he whispered the person's name to the moon.
"Gokudera-kun…"
Suddenly he caught the sound of someone walking up from behind him. He snapped his head around, nearly dropping the wine into the fountain. The light of the moon shadowed the person's face, but from what he can see, he's pretty tall.
"Shall we dance?" The masked stranger asked. Tsuna avoided eye contact and stared into the garden.
"In front of the ally family bosses?" He asked suspiciously. The man simply smiled.
"They won't notice us. We're the only ones outside," He grabbed the sky guardian's hand and together slow-danced under the moon's light. It was like a fairytale or those Disney stories where the Prince and Princess dance together only with two guys. Their dancing fell out of beat with the song at some point.
"We're off-beat," Tsuna bluntly pointed out.
"We are? I was following the beat of our hearts," The man slyly answered.
A faint pink stained his light cheeks. "S-So… Which family are you from?" Tsuna asked nervously. His heart was ready to burst. It was pounding against his chest like those times with Kyoko when he was in middle school.
"Just a family," The masked Mafioso answered. "You're Vongola Decimo, am I correct?"
Tsuna stopped dancing and pulled off his mask. "So what gave it away?" He asked with a calm smile.
The stranger leaned into his face. His warm breath washed across the brunette's face and his heart was choking him. "Just a hunch," He answered. He crushed Tsuna's lips with his. Both men were lost in each other's presence and in the kiss. What was a moment, felt like eternity with the stars and moon as the audience. It slowly warmed the Decimo's heart and he closed his eyes with a wish for the kiss to last longer. Eventually, the taller man gave him a chance to breathe, but not without Tsuna pulling a sleight of hand.
"So you're from the Vongola, right?" Tsuna asked with a victorious smile.
"What…?"
The shorter man revealed the dark gray mask that he pulled off of him when the kiss ended. "Gokudera-kun… Why aren't you at home?" Tsuna asked.
"So… So I can do this…" Gokudera grabbed his hands and pulled him into another kiss. He moved his hands to Tsuna's waist and his hair. His ring-adorned fingers getting lost in the soft, wild, threads of chocolate.
The kiss was passionate and burning. Instead of warmth, there was a fire in their hearts. One that burned hotter than their Dying Will flames. It's not a Christmas miracle nor a miracle of life. It was the miracle of Cupid's push and shove on Valentine's Day.
Yeah Valentine Day's coming up so... I decided to write my first fanfic :D I'm sorry if this kills you for reading, but i just wrote what popped up in my head LOL
